the digital divide
it suddenly hit me that there are lots of people who are stranded on the digital highway. they do not know how to use the computer, and that sets them back in many ways. most problematic is the reduced level of information received. a lot of information, at times important information, are now solely accessible digitally. they also face having reduced options due to their lack of computer skills.
as an aside, the new google toolbar 3 beta, which comes with instant translation [translation appears as one hovers the mouse pointer over a word on a webpage], is a step in the right direction. if we can't have as many webpages in the various different languages, the next best thing is for a software to be able to quickly translate english into the native language of users.
just to make a point, i'm going to repeat this posting [at least a scribble that's similar] in my good ol' conventional diary.
